The Prairie Conservation Award
Every three years, the Prairie Conservation Award honours outstanding champions of conservation — individuals, organizations, and Indigenous groups whose dedication has made a lasting impact on the protection of native prairie habitats and species at risk.
One award is presented in each of the three Prairie Provinces — Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta — celebrating those who have shown exceptional leadership, commitment, and vision in preserving the natural heritage of the prairies.
Nominations are open to anyone — from lifelong conservationists and community leaders to emerging advocates and grassroots organizations. Self-nominations are welcome, ensuring that every voice and contribution has the opportunity to be recognized.
Celebrate the people and partners who are shaping the future of prairie conservation — and help us honour their dedication to safeguarding these vital landscapes for generations to come.
Five criteria have been used in the evaluation of nominations for the Prairie Conservation Award:
1) Relationship of achievements to the conservation or understanding of native habitat or endangered species within the Prairies Ecozone.
2) Demonstration of exceptional commitment or innovation (above and beyond normal livelihood expectations).
3) Demonstration of enduring commitment.
4) Significance of the accomplishment in terms of results.
5) Extent to which granting of an award to this nominee will help native habitat conservation and endangered species efforts within the Prairies Ecozone.
Nominations should include a resume or curriculum vitae (CV) accompanied by a letter outlining the significant contributions to native habitat or endangered species conservation of the nominated individual.
Nominations are received and evaluated within each province and submitted to the PCESC 2026 Social and Awards Committee.
